Insurance Sales Representative – State Farm Agent Team Member

Full-Time | In-Person | Platte City, MO
Base Salary $40,000–$50,000 DOE + Commission

Position Overview

Are you a motivated salesperson who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and helping people make confident decisions?

Our State Farm agency is looking for a full-time Insurance Sales Representative to join our Platte City team. We are looking for someone who can combine strong sales habits with a customer-first approach—someone who is comfortable setting goals, following up consistently, asking good questions, and recommending solutions based on each customer's individual needs.

Prior insurance experience is not required. Sales experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right person who brings the personality, work ethic, communication skills, and desire to succeed.

This is an opportunity to build a long-term career with an established local insurance agency while helping individuals, families, and businesses protect what matters most to them.

What You'll Do

As a member of our sales team, you will

  • Develop new customer relationships through inbound opportunities, internet leads, referrals, outbound prospecting, existing customer opportunities, and community relationships.
  • Hold appointments with prospective and existing customers to identify needs and recommend appropriate insurance solutions.
  • Quote and sell multiple lines of insurance, including auto, homeowners, renters, life, health, business, boat, recreational vehicle, and commercial auto insurance.
  • Cross-sell additional products to help customers identify and address gaps in their insurance coverage.
  • Consistently follow up with prospects and customers throughout the sales process.
  • Build and maintain a sales pipeline and manage multiple opportunities at different stages.
  • Use a customer-focused, needs-based approach rather than a one-size-fits-all sales process.
  • Work closely with other members of the agency team to provide a positive customer experience.
  • Develop relationships within the community and help strengthen our agency's local presence.
  • Work toward established production and activity goals.
What Success Looks Like

Successful sales team members in this role are able to consistently generate new business while developing long-term customer relationships.

Production goals include building toward approximately 50–80 new policies per month, while maintaining a strong focus on quality conversations, customer needs, cross-selling opportunities, and appropriate insurance solutions.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their results rather than waiting for opportunities to come to them.

Who We're Looking For

The right person for our team is

  • A self-starter who takes pride in their work.
  • Relationship-oriented and comfortable talking with a wide variety of people.
  • Motivated by goals and personal achievement.
  • Customer-first in their approach to sales.
  • Fair, logical, and thoughtful when helping customers make decisions.
  • Solutions-oriented and comfortable identifying options when challenges arise.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, leads, customers, and priorities at the same time.
  • Persistent with follow-up without being overly aggressive.
  • Coachable and interested in continuously improving.
  • Interested in contributing to the agency and the community around them.
  • Comfortable working independently while also being part of a team.
Experience & Requirements

  • Previous sales experience is preferred but not required.
  • Insurance experience is a plus but not required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn and use computer systems and sales technology.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow up consistently.
  • Willingness to obtain all applicable insurance licenses.
  • Ability to successfully complete applicable State Farm training requirements.
For the right candidate, we are willing to provide training and reimburse applicable licensing expenses.

Compensation

This position includes

  • $40,000–$50,000 base salary, depending on experience

  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Commission and bonus opportunities
  • Insurance licensing reimbursement
  • Training and professional development
  • Growth potential and opportunities for advancement within our agencies
Schedule & Location

This is a full-time, in-person position based in our Platte City office.

Team members may occasionally be asked to assist at our Parkville-area office due to unexpected staffing needs, weather, or other unusual circumstances, but Platte City will be the primary work location.

Growth Opportunities

We want people who are interested in growing—not simply filling a position.

Strong performers can earn increased responsibility, compensation, and leadership opportunities within our agencies. For individuals interested in a long-term insurance career, the experience and skills developed in this position can also provide a strong foundation for future career opportunities within the State Farm agency system.

Why Join Our Team?

We believe insurance sales should be about more than selling a policy.

Our goal is to build lasting relationships, understand what matters to our customers, and help them find insurance solutions that make sense for their lives and businesses.

We want team members who take pride in doing good work, want to become trusted resources for their customers, and care about making the community around them stronger.

At the same time, this is a sales position. We value initiative, accountability, consistent activity, and results. If you enjoy competing against goals, developing relationships, solving problems, and seeing your effort directly influence your income and career growth, you may be a great fit for our team.

If you are motivated to succeed and can see yourself in this role, please complete our application. We will follow up with qualified candidates regarding the next steps in our interview process.
